Harissa

Harissa is a North African chili paste commonly used in Tunisian, Moroccan and Algerian cuisine as a spicy condiment and flavoring ingredient. It’s known for its smoky, spicy taste and is typically made from roasted red peppers, chiles, garlic, olive oil and spices. Harissa provides concentrated flavor so it’s usually used sparingly in stews, marinades and as a table condiment. Nutrition-wise, it also contributes plant fiber, providing about 3.4g of fiber per 100g, and delivers vitamins and antioxidants from the red peppers. Because it’s a concentrated paste, it can add color, vitamin-rich pepper compounds and savory depth without needing large quantities. As a pantry condiment, it’s a flavorful way to boost dishes; its pepper ingredients bring antioxidant and vitamin benefits while the product’s concentrated nature means a little goes a long way in cooking.
