Rice Wine (Shaoxing)

Rice Wine (Shaoxing) is a traditional Chinese rice wine from the Shaoxing region, widely used in Chinese cuisine for marinades, braises and stir-fries to add depth, umami and a slightly nutty aroma. It is relatively low in other macronutrients but does contribute modest energy at 80kcal per 100g and is used primarily as a flavoring rather than a food staple. Nutrition-wise it contains negligible protein, fat and fiber and only trace amounts of minerals like manganese, niacin and zinc, so it isn't a meaningful source of vitamins or minerals.
