Perilla Leaf

Perilla Leaf is an aromatic leaf used across East Asian cuisines — commonly called shiso in Japan or tía tô in Vietnam — prized for its bright, slightly minty and anise-like flavor and used fresh as a garnish, in sushi, salads, pickles and wraps. Nutritionally it is a light, herbaceous ingredient that contributes micronutrients more than calories; per 100 g it provides 450µg of vitamin K, making it a notable source for that vitamin. Perilla leaves also supply fiber and some plant protein, and contain antioxidant compounds such as polyphenols and carotenoids, so they can add flavor plus a nutrient and antioxidant boost to meals without many calories.
