Pickle Brine

Pickle Brine is the salty, acidic liquid used to pickle cucumbers and other vegetables across many cuisines; it appears as plain brine in jars of pickles, capers and other preserved vegetables. It is typically used as a preserving and flavoring medium rather than eaten on its own. Nutritionally, Pickle Brine is very low in energy but high in sodium — it contains about 4g of salt per 100g — and only traces of other nutrients such as calcium and magnesium. Because it’s used in small amounts for flavoring and preservation, it contributes little to calories or macronutrients. From a health perspective, brine is useful for preserving foods and delivering strong flavor so you can use less added fat, but its high salt content means it’s best used sparingly or swapped for acidic, lower-sodium alternatives when trying to reduce sodium intake.
