Rum

Rum is a distilled spirit made from fermented sugarcane products (molasses or juice) and is commonly used in Caribbean and international cocktails as well as in cooking. It is energy-dense — about 231kcal per 100g — and is typically consumed in small measures rather than as a food. Nutritionally, Rum provides essentially no protein, fiber, or beneficial fats and contains negligible vitamins and minerals, so its contribution is mostly alcoholic calories; it does contain a trace of salt. Because of that, it’s best used sparingly in recipes or drinks. From a health perspective, Rum doesn’t offer meaningful micronutrients or protein and has little in the way of protective plant compounds, so choosing lower-alcohol or lower-calorie alternatives and moderating intake are the main ways to reduce potential harms.
