Psyllium Husk is the ground husk of the psyllium seed (often called Isabgol) used widely in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines as a dietary fiber supplement, thickener and gluten-free binding agent in baking. It is prized for forming a gel-like mucilage when mixed with liquid, which makes it useful as a laxative, egg substitute or dough binder. Nutritionally, Psyllium Husk is almost entirely fiber and provides 85g of fiber per 100g, making it one of the densest natural sources of soluble fiber available. That high soluble fiber content promotes stool bulk and regularity, helps increase feelings of fullness and can aid blood‑cholesterol and blood‑glucose control when used as part of a balanced diet. Because it is almost pure fiber with very little protein or fat, Psyllium Husk is a specialist ingredient rather than a general nutrient source — excellent for digestive health, satiety and as a gluten-free thickener, and also contributes small amounts of minerals such as iron and manganese.
